God is simple: Let us live simply.

The concept of simplicity may find no rationale in the demonstration of proving God’s existence of God at one glance. It may seem that simplicity has nothing to do with the attributes of God. We always connote God as someone who is powerful, magnificent, and extravagant. But let us analyze the attribute of God as simple.

St. Thomas Aquinas remarkably pointed out the veracity of God’s simplicity “as a positive perfection, a definite disposition, because of which a being need not be made by parts.” In the perspective of perfection, the simplicity of God is an affirmation of his nobility and his perfection. It indicates a very great perfection of simplicity which signifies a specific perfection that only God enjoys its predication. Succinctly, we have seen that God enjoys perfection of simplicity. There is a tacit understanding that God loves the simple.

Let us live simply.

People from different walks of life aspire for greatness and have that natural desire to become successful and at the end become somebody. It’s indeed a worthy dream to become somebody, so it only worth fraught energies and courage. There are successful people and there are unsuccessful. But sometimes success is being deduced to material greatness, worldly power. Indeed it brings solace but sometimes they are getting lost. They have forgotten the beauty of simple life. Let us look around and let us not get too far. Here in the seminary, extravagance should be out of the picture of a seminarian who wants to follow Jesus. Sometimes we are being lost along the way because we make our lives so complicated. If we abide only in the rules and regulation, we are making our lives simple. We live simply. But if we violate rules and regulation we just make our life complicated. There are some who were given disciplinary action because of bringing unnecessary gadgets. Hence, I used to tell my younger brothers, “Ano pa ang hahanapin natin kung Diyos ang nasa puso natin? Masarap matulog ng mahimbing na walang dinadalang balakid.”

How good it is to pray and study if our hearts is undivided. Simple life is not a demand for living but the wisdom behind simplicity is the bereft of complicated life. It’s nice to live a simple life. I have nothing to worry of. I believed when life is patterned to the basic and we will not get lost. Let us live a simple life for Jesus himself, our model, lived a simple life and preached the Gospel with simplicity. He loves the simple person.
